아시아의 물 부족 문제가 심각하며 아시아가 발전할수록 문제는 더욱 빠르게 악화될 것으로 보인다. 그러나 시민들의 인식이나 정치권의 노력 수준이 너무 낮아 물에 대한 수요 증가를 해결하는데 필요한 급진적 변화를 가져오기가 어렵다고 국제 물 전문가들이 말했다.

한 전문가는 급속한 도시화, 산업화, 인구 증가의 결합은 물의 안정적 공급부터 위생, 배수, 폐수 처리까지 물 관리에 있어서 아시아 국가들을 위협할 것이라고 말했다. 그는 2030년경 아시아가 40%가 식수 부족에 직면하게 될 것이라는 아시아개발은행의 전망을 예로 들었다. 그러나 에너지 문제에 비해 다가오는 물 위기는 별로 주목을 받지 못하는 것 같은데 이는 물을 관리하고 있는 정부, 시, 공기업 등이 말하기를 꺼리는 것에도 일부 원인이 있다고 이 전문가는 말했다.

Water shortage is an increasing problem in Asia and seems to deteriorate rapidly as Asia advances further. Some international water experts, however, said it is hard to bring radical changes in grappling with water scarcity because of a low level of public awareness and political effort. 

One expert noted that the combination of rapid urbanization, industrialization, and a growing population will threat Asian countries, causing poor water management such as stable water supply, sanitation, drainage, and waste treatment. He cited an Asian Develop Bank's prospect that 40 percent of Asia will be confronted with a water deficit by 2030. Yet, the water crisis on the horizon doesn't draw as much attention as energy problems. He pointed out that this is in part because of governments, cities, and public firms, that are responsible for the management of water and reluctant to disclose water issues.
