1. assign sth to sb: 배정하다

Today at school, we got assigned to reading groups.

2. come right out and say sth: 직설적으로 말하다; 솔직히 말하다; 분명히 말하다

They don't come right out and tell you if you're in the Gifted group or the Easy group.

학교 측에서 네가 영재 그룹 혹은 일반 그룹에 속해 있는지 직접적으로 말해주지는 않는다.

3. screening N: 검사; 심사

When they did the screening at the end of last year, I did my best to make sure I got put in the Easy group.

작년 말에 학교에서 (독서그룹) 심사를 할 때, 나는 일반그룹에 들어가려고 최선을 다했다.

Mom is always saying I'm a smart kid, but that I just don't "apply" myself.

엄마는 항상 내가 똑똑한 어린이지만, 노력은 안 한다고 말씀하신다.

It's to set people's expectations real low so you end up surprising them by practically doing nothing at all.

사람들의 기대치를 아주 낮춰 놓으면, 사실상 아무것도 안 하고 결국 사람들을 놀라게 한다는 것이다.

I told Dad that Rodrick had played a trick on me.

아빠에게 로드릭 형이 장난 친거라고 말했다.

6. chew out a person: 누군가를 호되게 꾸짖다; 야단치다

Dad walked down to the basement to chew him out and I tagged along.

아빠는 형을 혼내려 지하러 내려가셨고, 나는 그 뒤를 졸졸 따라갔다.

7. get what's coming to one: 당연한 벌을 받다

I couldn't wait to see Rodrick get what was coming to him.

나는 로드릭 형이 혼나는 모습을 빨리 보고 싶었다.

Rodrick covered up his traks pretty good.

You might think I was pretty dumb for falling for that one, but Rodric was dressed up in his school clothes and he set my alarm clock ahead to make it look like it was the morning.

even though that was the only court that had a hoop with a net.

It's basically like the Cooties.
치즈 터치는 영화 "Cooties"와 비슷하다.

If you get the Cheese touch, you're stuck with it until you pass it on to someone else.
치즈 터치에 걸리게되면, 다른 사람에게 옮기기 전까지 치즈 저주에 갇힌다.

The only way to protect yourself form the Cheese Touch is to cross your fingers.
치즈 터치로 자신을 보호할 단 한가지 방법은 손가락 꼬기로 행운을 비는 것이다.

I try to explain all this popularity stuff to my frind Rolwly (who is probably hovering right around the 150 mark, by the way).

And sure enough, it was.

The best I can figue is that I'm somewhere around 52nd or 53rd most popular this year.

The thing that really stinks is that I have always been into girls, but kids like bryce have only come around in the last coulple of years.
나는 여자 아이들에게 항상 관심이 있었지만 브라이스 같은 아이들은 몇 년전부터 태도가 바뀌었을 뿐인데 인기가 있는건 정말 이해가 안 간다.
